Medallion 2- Bharhut Series

The inner petals of this medallion’s lotus turn inward, suggesting a half-bloom resting around the central pericarp. Around it, beads and a scrolling border frame the design. To emphasize its watery roots, I’ve added wavy lines, symbolizing the lotus blooming gracefully upon water. What fascinates me is the endless creativity of Bharhut’s artists—finding so many ways to depict a single flower, each time with new meaning.
